my wish for may’s new moon

If you were granted one wish, what would you wish for?

And, if you think a little deeper about your one wish, what values are at the heart of that wish? What does your wish tell you about what’s important to you?

Right now, we are in the middle of the energy of May’s new moon in the astrological sign of Taurus. That means that this is the perfect new moon for setting a deep, personal intention. Not just a good or productive intention, but one that goes to the core of who we are and what we value most. You know, the values that define the life that we want to create and live.

And the intention that we plant at this new moon can be the seed that grows into something beautiful that we harvest come late autumn.

A little about new moons

The new moon phase is when the moon is not visible in our night sky. It is the quiet, restful period of the lunar cycle. The place of reset and new beginnings. After this phase, in a day or so, the moon will begin to grow until she reaches her peak at the full moon phase two weeks from now. After the full moon, she wanes again, as a half moon and then a crescent fingernail moon before disappearing again at the next new moon a month from now. And so the cycle goes, month after month. Lunar cycle after lunar cycle. Moving across the night sky and through the constellations out in space.

Now, I am no astrologer nor astronomer at all, but I do know that the moon appears to move through the constellations as she orbits the earth. With each lunar cycle, she “passes through” the astrological sign of the month.

Right now, we are in Taurus season. For years, people have associated characteristics, traits, vibes, and moods with each astrological sign. Taurus is an fixed sign. Steady, earthy, grounding, stable. It’s like the root chakra energy - the slow, deep foundation from which we live. So, it is the perfect time to focus on our values. Those beliefs and ideas that are the grounding, rooted foundation of our lives.

i believe that there is deep meaning to be found in this new moon cycle

I always think of May as the magical spring/summer sister to the witchy, autumn/winter energy of October. With that in mind, whatever we plant now, as the growing season is upon us, just might take root and provide us with an abundant harvest come autumn.

So, what if we wish for one thing, set an intention, and plant that seed, a core value, under this new moon? What might grow all summer long and be ready for harvest at the threshold of winter’s arrival?

This wish, this intention, does not have to be perfect, y’all. Or forever. It isn’t the defining thing for us for all of eternity. That’s way too much pressure. This wish, this core value, this intention - is for this moment in time and this season of life.

This is a seed for this growing season. Meant to be planted and harvested, and then infused into our life to sustain and nourish and inspire us all winter long. This seed is for our growth during this year only. It is for where we are right now. This is an opportunity to dig deep into our soul and uncover the truth of what one of our deepest core values is - and then create an intention, an idea, a goal, a plan for the next six months from it.

Under this new moon in Taurus we are invited to plant that seed so we can nurture it, water it, and tend to it until autumn’s harvest.

Remember, there’s no pressure to get anything right. Our only task is to nurture our life so that our seed, our intention, takes root and thrives as best it can. We have no idea what will come of our seed, and, honestly, it doesn’t really matter. We just plant it and tend to it. And wait to see what grows and how we change as the months pass and the seasons turn.

oracle card rituals are my go to way to tap into my intuition

A ritual for this new moon in Taurus

If you want to spend a little time thinking about your one wish, one value, and one intention, then set aside a little time for some solitude. The whole idea is just to listen and feel and intuit. Think about what you are planting this May and then just commit to tending to your seed all season long.

If you need or want a little help in thinking through your thoughts and ideas, I’ve provided a simple ritual for you. Use and adapt it however you wish.

So, what is your one wish right now? What would you ask for if you could receive one wish granted?

Pull an oracle card or a tarot card. Meditate. Breathe. Get quiet. Listen. Tap into your intuition to decide on your one wish. Then, write your wish down.

What core value does your wish represent?

Think. Feel. Intuit. Journal and document your thoughts as you decide on what core value is connected to your wish.

Now, what intention, what seed, do you want to plant?

Let it rise from that deep core value. Let it be something that helps you create the life that aligns with who you really are and how you want to live. Let it be simple, imperfect, hopeful. Let it be something meant for this year, for this season, and this era in your life.

Write it down. And make a note in your calendar to check in again in the end of October - at the last harvest on Samhain (31 October). This is not to put pressure on you to accomplish something, but as an opportunity to see how your seed, how you, have grown and changed - and how life has unfolded.

You may even want to write a letter to yourself and then close it up - to be read as a solitary ritual on Halloween/Samhain.

I’ll be sure to write a note to you after the last harvest so we can check in with each other and perhaps even share what has grown in our lives during the year.

returning to my wild, magical ways. but, now, as a wise woman over fifty. feels powerful and grounding.

A peek into what I am planting under May’s new moon

intuited after a reading with by my oracle cards, deep breathing, and a bit of journaling

one wish: I wish to have the wisdom of the leaves. Knowing how to just be. Receiving and releasing. Soaking in and sharing. Embracing and flowing with the cycles of the seasons in a real, everyday way, while at the same time, guiding others simply by the way I live my life.

one value: Wisdom - learning and leading.

one intention: To show up in this new era of my life with my roots firm and deep. Ready to use my own wisdom as I lead and inspire others. What does this next phase in my life mean for me - spiritually? What more do I have to learn? And how can I share what I soak in and experience? My intention is to simply receive and release wisdom - in my own unique ways.

blessings to you. happy new moon.

And, with that, I send you blessings of inspiration and peace this May, as you discover your own wish under the new moon in Taurus. May you plant your intention deep so that its roots take hold and it thrives all season long.

May we all make the time over the next six months to tend to our seeds of intention so that we receive a bountiful harvest come autumn. I truly believe that we will.

xoxo. liz.
